Is this possible?  Freddie has Addisons, and since diagnosis, back in April, has been loosing his hair.  Now almost bald, not a good look for a bearded collie!  Much better with the Addisons, but is this caused by too much steroid?  He is on 2mg pred, reduced from 2.5.  Do I try and go lower?

Hi

Was Freddie treated with high doses of steroids before he was diagnosed with Addison's disease?  If he was then his hair loss could be the fall out of this treatment.

If he wasn't, and he is on Zycortal, then there is a chance that he is one of the dogs who might experience Alopecia as a result of Zycortal treatment.  If you look at the Drug sheet for Zycortal you will see that in a trial 5.3% of 113 dogs developed alopecia.

I personally, wouldn't lower the dose of preds any further.  Replacement glucocorticoid hormone is essential to an Addisonian dog to cope with day to day life and other stressful situations. Does Freddie have any other clinical signs like eating and drinking too much?
