Hello

We have just had the results of the latest bloods and the Lab now manually count using the slide that the Vet also sends...as the last two occasions there had been clumping.
Last time (3 weeks ago) we were 218 - this time  210 but they were very happy with that figure (although it had dropped) and said it was well within their range.   I am always concerned when the Platelet count drops, especially when there has been no change to the meds but the Vet said that even perfectly healthy dogs, if tested, could show a variation in their platelet count from one week to another ???

He is being kept on the current dose of Preds (7.5mg EOD) and the Aza remains 25mg EOD.   Vet prefers to prolong the dose for a couple more weeks, just to see what the count does.

The one thing that is causing some concern at the moment, is that harley seems to get a lot of 'mucky' ears - something that he never used to get.   No infection but when I asked the vet to look at them last, they were very waxy and had a little greyish matter there but no infection or inflammation.   I am reluctant to use ear cleaner too much and wonder if this is something to be expected ?
Have any other had this and how often do you clean the ears?

Thank you.

Hi Gwyneth

Harley's latest results are very goos and I would be happy with that.

His waxy ears may be something to do with the treatment - steroids do interfere with all manner of functions.  I use a baby wipe to generally clean the ears.  Wait until he is off medication before you start to worry about this problem.  It might all balance itself out.  I would clean the ears when needed and if it is more than a couple of times a week then think again.

Great news though.

Thank you Jo.

I must get some Baby Wipes...... I do keep Thornit in but felt this was inappropriate to use for 'general' ear cleaning.
