Lola's breathing status

I think her nasal passages are very swollen. Has anyone had a horse with the disease called heaves? I have. This is what she looks like when she is sleeping, at rest. Big intake of air, then the pushing out of air. Like a person with asthma. There is no easy flow of oxygen. When she is awake it is better. We took a short walk today, since the intolerable heat of this summer has finally broken. She cannot go around the block, only about half way now. I don't think her lungs are involved but sometimes I wonder. Appetite still very good. She is till watching for the mail and still "wanting" to chase the ball. Sometimes more want than chase. Getting up in the morning is not fun for her. I talk and convince her she can do it. There is a lot of clearing of mucus during the AM. Why does this have to be so hard? Why did she beat all the odds with AI and now this? She doesn't ever complain. Such a sweet thing she is.

Gail, hope you have a good day with lola today, you are such an inspiration and give me strength and h
I have learned so much from you. Good thoughts and hugs to you and lola from elisabeth and stella (who also brings me her balls and bones and then is too weak to run after them....but is happy when she can hide them from me!)

Oh Gail,

I'm so sorry she is having such a hard time. I know what you mean with the way a "heaves" horse breathes, its that extra expiratory effort to try and get the air out that is so marked.

Life can be so unfair, she is such a brave dog with such a dedicated mum, it just doesn't seem right.

I hope that her congestion eases. It still sounds like she is enjoying her life and the amazing thing with animals is that they never think "why me".

Thinking of you and sending hugs to Lola the Lovely, from Cooper the Courageous :)

I don't know why this has to be so hard Gail, but she is with the best person to deal with it!  How about getting in touch with your homoeopath to see if she can give something else for her current symptoms.  I know it is clutching at straws but that is what we do and it sometimes pays off. I know it is difficult for you.  It must be her courage that keeps you going.

Or get your homeopath to make a nosode from the mucous that is coming out of Lola's nose.

My Lola is currently being treated with a nosode that has been made from the stuff that is coming out of her ears!  it's working very well.

I'll look into that Penel. I don't know if anyone local makes nosodes. And thanks everyone for the support. I think as long as she can sleep through it she must be OK yet. But she is having more restless nights, so I am too. Daytime is much better since she can have her sneezing fits and get rid of the mucus. I'm going to pop her into see the vet soon so he can have a listen to her lungs. Sometimes she coughs real hard and then seems to have coughed up a wad of something. I do think it is draining into her throat rather than coming from her lungs though.

What a very good idea Penel.  It's worth looking in to Gail.

Most of what I am reading about nosodes explains it as a preventative for certain diseases or conditions. It seems like it may not be for a full blown condition like what Lola has going on. On the other hand I also see talk about transfer factor. A friend suggested it for Lola months ago. But I am always very hesitant to give things which stimulate etc. the immune system. Also Lola still takes LDN, which modifies the immune system. Does anybody have thoughts about transfer factor for Lola's nasal congestion? We are at the point of trying something even if it poses a slight risk.
Thanks.

You can also use a nosode to treat an ongoing condition.  My Lola has had terrible ear problems most of her life, this is the first time we've tried a nosode made from the gunk that comes out of her ears.

So your Lola has all this gunk coming from her ears. My Lola has all this gunk coming from her nose. My friend's mother is also named Lola. She has been quite the mother to my friend (difficult at best.) This 'mom' Lola is now 90 something. My friend tells me the name Lola means "woman of woe." Perhaps there is something to it?

Thanks Penel. I will check into it further to see if I can find someone to materialize it. Lord knows we have enough of the raw material!!
