Hello everybody,

Prunella has just had her bi yearly mot and the vet has decided that he will take her pred down from 5mg every other day to 2mg every other day, he will not take her off completly because of her past relapses but i'm more than happy that at the age of 12 and 2 years clear from her last relapse that she is now going to be on her lowest dose.

She has a bit of a poorly tummy today with some blood in it and has been put on some anti biotics...she helped herself to a bowl of ice cream yesterday so maybe this has made her feel a bit unwell.

Hi Annee,
what flavour ice cream  ;)  hopefully that was the reason for the poorly tummy.  Do you give Slippery Elm powder for upset tummies, I do and it's amazing.  For a really bad upset tummy I roll manuka honey into a ball with slippery elm (sort of size of a malteser).
Good luck with that pred reduction I'm sure everything will be fine.

Thanks Penel,

The ice cream flavour was clotted cream raspberry ripple  :)

I will certainly get some slippery elm, have not heard of it, would a health food shop do it ?

The vet was very positive re lowering her dose saying the risk of taking it down by over half is very low, it's lowering the higher doses that run the risk which obviously i knew.

He said that he had a cross breed in at the moment showing signs of AIHA...i said that i feel for any owner having to go through it, those high pred doses in the first instance plus the worry is unbearable.

I did pass on this site to him incase its positive.

Thanks again.

Yum, she has good taste.  (I might have tasted Ben and Jerry's raspberry chocolate brownie a few weeks ago)...

I use the slippery elm powder from Dorwest Herbs, they call it Tree Barks powder.

if you buy it from a health food shop, make sure it is high % slippery elm - some of the slippery elm products have a lot of plain flour in them which is not what you want.

Hi annee

I hope Pru is feeling better now.  I can see why your vet wants to lower the dose of preds.  She has done so well Annee, I can remember so well....
