Birthday girl!! Her adoption date is 8 years ago, when they estimated her age to be one year old. We will celebrate her life tomorrow by taking her somewhere she used to go to, but has not been in a while because of her illness.  She loves that sort of thing.

New symptoms which started late yesterday have me concerned. I find myself hoping for signs she is fed-up with her illness :( Is the new dreadful hacking cough the sign?  She sounds like a long term smoker, and hacks up white stuff. I will gradually withdraw the additional supplements which I had hoped would help her. I have no idea if they are helping, since she is not better. She is still doing "OK" today. Who knew Lola would live this long :)))) all the while a determined, uncomplaining, game playing, true to form bully. Truly, she is now not a dog and a half...she is now three dogs, for sure :)) Counting Bizzy, it's like I have four dogs??

Thank you all, for the happy birthday greetings for Lovely Lola. She is tuckered out at the moment. She had a couple of games of ball early in the day. Then after our trip to the grocer, we took her and Bizzy to the park we used to go to. She was so excited she pooped three times, LOL. She was most interested in eating the grass at the waters edge and paid little attention to the ducks begging for bread. Bizzy wanted to sniff them out and kept her nose to the ground. Then we went to Brauns Bay where we used to take her also. It has a horseshoe type drive through it with lake on all sides. The bad wind storm we had a month ago took out so many big white pine trees. Lola went wading in the lake there.  After that we took them to the ice cream place. I should probably not have shared my cone with her but I did. Then home to a raw hamburger patty. It's been a good day. I noticed this morning that she has a goose egg on her eyebrow. It is also stained grass-green. I have no idea how she did that since I am with her all the time when she is out. Cough seems a little bit less sinister today.

Hi Gail been off line so only just read of LOLA's special day.
Belated birthday greetings to a special dog & her special mum,  Lola is a credit to all your care & understanding & an inspiration to many with dogs that do not always enjoy the health that we would wish for but  proves just what can be achieved in her  enjoying her life.

Best wishes. Sylvia & the Affis UK.

Thank you Jan :)

Today I had the little one to the vet for check on heart murmer, lyme disease and heartworm. She still is producing antibodies for lyme so we are doing another course of doxy. Since she had lyme back in January, now she doesn't want us to pick her up anymore. I thought it was only because she associated her pain of lyme disease with being picked up, back when it was active. She was different at the vet too. She is usually so friendly but today was trying to avoid the vet. So we are being cautious. Otherwise she seems fine and her murmer is the same as last year.

I told the vet that Lola is progressing in her ataxia and her nasal congestion. He still thinks the two could be related. I do too. The neuro says no. But how many dogs do they follow this long? Anyway I told him we are weighing her condition and quality of life. He said I will know when the time is right. When I said that I didn't want her to get into a desperate state he puddled up. He is as bad as me with this. We will keep on for now though. Such a long illness...
