Just joined this group to get more information about IMHA.
Our spaniel was diagnosed 5 weeks ago.
Still on full meds, and is thankfully, happy and bouncy - although we dont take him for long walks as he gets tired and mildly shaky legs after about 15 minutes.
I have started him on a home cooked diet, with supplements, and plan to see a holistic vet on Friday for detailed diet advice, and for flea control etc. Blood check tomorrow to see if his red cell count is going up. Last measure was around 27.
I'm wondering if this disease started after he had his teeth cleaned. This was about two years ago. He developed very red gums above his canine teeth and ulcers in his mouth on the upper lip and bone join. The vet said it was his body rejecting his tartar/ saliva ?? and gave him steriods which calmed it down. After them, we cleaned his teeth regularly and used a dental spray to keep the ulcers under control. Apparently this type of problem is common after a teeth clean as (some have said ) that bacteria are forced under the gums.
Just curious if any others have had similar history.
